WebTalk #1: Flood disaster July 2021 - Perspectives from science and practice

29.11.2021

With the WebTalk series "Climate Change and Disaster Response", the Bonn Network for International Civil Protection and Disaster Risk Reduction wants to shed light on the interdependencies of the two topics from different perspectives.

The first WebTalk in the series deals with the devastating flood disaster in July 2021 from the perspective of science and practice. Dr Rainer Bell (University of Bonn) sheds light on the background of the heavy rain event, how the disaster could have happened and to what extent climate change plays a role today and in future heavy rain events. Jochen Stein (Bonn Fire Brigade) describes the flood disaster from the perspective of the Bonn Fire Brigade, looks back on storms in the past and gives an outlook on future developments and the need for change. The moderation takes over Prof. Dr. Lothar Schrott (University of Bonn). Afterwards you are cordially invited to ask questions and join the discussion.
